A water leak in the kitchen led homeowners, Kent & Sherry to call Lightbox Homes to begin a kitchen renovation.
The homeowners wanted to be sure that they chose a reliable and trustworthy contractor that had specific experience with kitchen remodeling, so they checked online reviews and called other homeowners who used Lightbox Homes as their renovation contractor. They did their homework and found Lightbox Homes to be just what they were looking for!
“When looking for a remodeling contractor, we called several different companies. Some of the contractors we spoke to didn’t even call us back, and one company was just so high-priced, it was scary.” Kent said. “We checked on Lightbox Homes and called one of their clients who also used them to remodel their kitchen. They spoke very highly of them and their work. It made our decision easy…we chose Lightbox Homes to remodel our kitchen,” Kent confirmed.
FACT: Water leaks are one of the most common home disasters in insurance claims.
As a homeowner, sometimes home disasters (like water leaks) appear as big problems, but they can become opportunities to revitalize your home. The homeowners saw that this remodeling job would allow them to remodel some of the kitchen and to add elements that were missing from the initial design.
“We were able to get the kitchen look that we wanted, and even added a few things that weren’t there before! We added a new kitchen island, a wet bar, floating shelves, and some other details to pull it all together. I am just so happy with the new kitchen and how it looks!” Said Sherry.
This time-lapse video of the kitchen renovation shows the following:
· Assembling new cabinets to replace the water-damaged ones
· Fixing the plumbing and electrical that needed it.
· Preparing to paint (notice the paper covering on the floor)
· Painting the cabinet doors
· Painting the cabinets
· Painting the trim
· Assembling the cabinets for the new kitchen island and wet bar
· Installing the shiplap backdrop for the wet bar
· Sanding the floors to be even and level
· Staining the hardwood floors
The short time-lapse video does not show the entire job. Later on during the remodeling process, we did the following in the kitchen remodeling project:
· Installing the new granite countertops
· Installing the floating shelves on the wet bar
· Installing the cabinet hardware (drawer pulls)
· Installing the sink and appliances
“I am so pleased with the quality of the work, the communication during the job, and the follow-through. They were fun to work with and pleasant to have in our home. I would recommend Light Box Homes to anyone who needs to remodel their home- In fact, I already have!”, said Sherry.

Here are a few additional details from the business owners, Stephen and Lena:
Question: “Why did Lightbox Homes move into the Home Renovations space?”
Answer: (Stephen & Lena): “Whenever our team would go into a residential neighborhood and remodel a home, the neighbors always took notice of what we were doing. They watched closely as we replaced the siding, painted the home, added new windows, replaced the roof, added a new sunroom, replaced the cabinets, added granite countertops, or other renovations. The neighbors would always ask us to come over to their homes and give them a quote on remodeling.
We received daily requests when we were in the neighborhood remodeling a home on their street. It made sense for us to add home renovations to our business and offer this to local homeowners.”
Question: “What do you love about home renovations? Why did you decide to expand your business to work directly with homeowners?”
Answer: (Stephen & Lena): “We loved working with our investors, but at the end of the day, we realized that what we loved the most was renovating the homes and seeing the beautiful transformations. The best part of the whole project is the final reveal when the homeowners get so excited to tour their home and see all of the improvements. After a big remodeling job, like a kitchen or bathroom, we love to see how happy the homeowner is with the work we completed.”
Question: “What kind of home renovation work do you like to do? What kind of home remodeling jobs should people call you about?”
Answer:(Stephen & Lena): “We want to be known as the Home Remodeling Expert in Atlanta. People can call us for help with kitchen remodeling, bathroom remodeling, basement finishing, new porches, screened-in porches, patios, sunroom additions, new roofs, siding, sidewalks, driveways, fences, or retaining walls. If you've bought a property from OpenDoor over the last few years, you're probably happy with your purchase and location, but you've also probably got a home renovation to-do list a mile long.
The good news is, that your smart buying decision also came with the power to invest in those home improvement to-dos. Shall I go on?
One of the biggest trends in real estate currently is the emergence of powerful iBuyers like OpenDoor, Zillow Homes, Orchard, OfferPad, RedfinNOW and Knock. These powerful tech companies made a name for themselves as Disrupters, changing the rules of the real estate buying and selling game to make buying or selling a house as easy as shopping at Amazon for a new toaster oven.
The iBuyers use their deep cash reserves to buy houses in good condition but with somewhat dated layouts or finishes, in the middle of the market's price range. They then lightly renovated them, installing new flooring and painting the interior, before re-listing at a slightly higher price. They rarely repaired any of the major systems in a house.
With housing inventory at historical lows these last few years, many home buyers leaped at the chance to buy a house -any house- at a discount, as compared to fully renovated homes in the same neighborhood. The iBuyers' prospects soared while the buyers of those homes got instant equity in their slightly-better-than-fixer-upper homes.
Many iBuyer homes may look pretty in new flooring and paint, but may also come with electrical, plumbing, mechanical & roofing systems that are grinding out the end of their lifespan. If you’ve bought a home from an iBuyer like OpenDoor, you probably know what I mean.
Also, most iBuyers never put a cent into updating the property's layout, leaving many buyers with compartmentalized living rooms covered in wood paneling, uncomfortably tiny master bathrooms clad in pink tile, claustrophobic galley-style kitchens without modern amenities like disposals, musty partially-finished basements, and weathered outdoor entertaining spaces in need of a re-boot.
Thankfully, the lower price of a home bought from OpenDoor or OfferPad compared to fully-renovated homes in the neighborhood gifted buyers with a powerful ally in the renovation of their house: Equity.
For example, in our family's Atlanta neighborhood near Lakeside High School, houses bought in 2021 from OpenDoor often sold for $150k-$200k less than fully-renovated comparable properties, creating instant equity for our new neighbors.
The way it works is, if you invest in renovating your house, you can realize the value of the other renovated houses in the neighborhood; to sell or for the sheer joy of enjoying a fully-renovated house with open-concept living and dining areas, bigger master suites, fully-finished basements, and beautiful outdoor entertaining areas.
If you have bought a house from OpenDoor or any other iBuyer in the last four years, you're probably about ready to make the space your own, and Light Box would be happy to assist.
Remember: We built our experience on renovating and flipping old houses, so we are uniquely positioned to recognize your home's character, charm...And challenges, and we competed with OpenDoor for houses, so we know what they're delivering to their buyers, too: Paint and carpet.
Whenever you're tired of that old paint and carpet, call Light Box and let's open up those walls, create that perfect entertainer's kitchen, expand the master bath, and give the kids a place downstairs to play while the adults socialize in a new screened-in porch.
Your OpenDoor house is a blank canvas with the money needed to renovate it built in. Call us to learn how we can turn that blank canvas into a masterpiece of home living design!
