1. How long does the consultation take?
Depending on the size of the project can take between 1-3 hours. We like to have enough time in each appointment so our Renovation Designer may review the project with you and to allow you to make choices that enable us to prepare a more accurate price estimate based on any layout changes and the level of the finishes.
2. How long will my renovation take?
The scope of work for every project is very different and therefore the only way to determine the answer is at the time of your consultation with one of our Renovation Designer, who will advise you on the timeline when she delivers the initial project estimate.
3. Does Light Box warranty the work performed?
Yes. All structural, mechanical and system labor is covered by Light Box for one year following construction, and any appliances and/or mechanical components are covered by their manufacturer’s warranties.
4. When can you start?
Each project has a schedule that is specific to that project and depends on materials availability plus the availability of our tradesmen, in addition to whether or not the client has to vacate the premises for construction to commence. The date of commencement will be narrowed down during the consultation.
5. Do you finance?
We don’t finance at the moment, but we are working on it. Banks and other lending institutions offer home equity lines of credit that make for excellent sources of capital due to being secured by the property itself.
6. We have pets, is that a problem?
We love animals, and this is no problem at all. We understand that pets are part of your family, however, during the construction process we will ask you to keep them protected from escape, as we don't want them to hurt themselves or damage the work in process. We cannot be held responsible for taking care of your pets on-site during construction, so arranging for their care and security is a crucial step in designing the renovation.
7. Why do we need to pick our finishes now, I just want a general price?
The level of finishes plus changes to your layout, mechanicals, plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems all come together to form a unique quote for your project, called an initial renovation budget, and the only way to nail that down is to meet with you on site. There are so many choices when it comes to finishes and layout, and they can change the cost significantly. A price given over the phone based upon a brief conversation might not hold up under deeper scrutiny, which would violate our commitment to transparency and accountability, so such off-the-cuff price quoting is not part of our company protocol. This is a big project, not to be handled casually.
8. How is Light Box different from other home renovation companies?
In the remodeling business, a simple calculation of labor and material seems a logical measure of a project’s estimated cost between different contractors. However, it is often very difficult to make a true “apples to apples” comparisons since so much can change once you begin drilling down on the details. Materials can be sourced from many different companies, labor too, and the skill and attention from the project manager can vary wildly from company to company.
Higher-priced companies have fewer projects, usually equating to more attention being paid to yours. Lower-priced companies have to take on twice the projects to make the same money, costing their clients in time, hassle and convenience. It has happened in the past where we have had to take over for an over-extended contractor who couldn’t keep their promises to the client, and these experiences taught us the correct way to manage a major home renovation project.
We can assure you that the caliber of our installers is far superior to that of our competitors, and we source our materials from proven, consistent suppliers. This is based upon the years put into our own house flips and rental investment properties, where a balance between price and quality had to be reached in order for the investment to make a profit.
We believe that great people form the backbone of a great company, and that you can only build a solid client experience from a cadre of solid tradespeople. We trust that our clients know and recognize the value a trustworthy contractor brings to the table in terms of peace of mind and efficiency. At Light Box Homes, we invest in our entire team from the installers to the consultation specialists, as well as the administrative team.
Every cog in the machine must spin together for the whole thing to work. With Light Box, you can be confident that your home renovation will be done right from on the first time.
